New Jersey Municipalities Fight Back On Regional Sewer Authority Capital Costs

With municipal budgets stretched and voters and businesses challenging escalating taxes and user costs, municipalities are putting increased pressure on regional authorities to control costs. After years of increasing inflated user rates, municipalities have applied heightened scrutiny to regional authorities’ budgets, expenses, and capital improvements. The member municipalities of the Rahway Valley Sewerage Authority have commissioned an expert to review the ballooning expenses associated with the RVSA’s cogeneration project, with expectations that this analysis could translate in substantial savings to municipalities, their residents, and their local businesses and industries.
